This results in a large number of processes that need to be managed right from the start.

How does classic task management work?

The so-called "waterfall model" best explains how classic task management works. It is often used in companies with a hierarchical organizational structure. Large projects are divided into several phases, which are carried out consistently in the specified order. Analogous to the PDCA cycle, elements of the traditional waterfall model include planning the project flow (project plan taking into account the requirements), executing (design, implementation, test), observing and finally ending the project (delivering).

What are the advantages and disadvantages of classic task management?

In classic task management, the focus is on high planning security. The project process is precisely defined in a plan at the start of the project, as is a fixed delivery date, dedicated resources and contractually agreed costs. The orderly structure means that even large projects can be planned and carried out precisely. Classic task management is particularly interesting for projects that have very constant requirements and do not require short-term correction loops. The main disadvantage of classic task management can already be seen here. It is unsuitable for projects with many unpredictable changes in requirements due to a lack of flexibility. There is a risk that errors will only be discovered and corrected at a later point in time, which is usually associated with high additional costs.

What is hybrid task management software?

Hybrid task management is a combination of classic and agile task management. This pragmatic approach is mainly used in industries with high innovation pressure such as the information and telecommunications technology market as well as the automotive industry with short time-to-market sequences.

Hybrid task management aims at a more flexible handling of continuous change requests, a stronger orientation of the project results to the market needs and a shortening of the implementation time of the project in comparison to the classic task management.

For this purpose, agile methods are integrated into a classic structure and process organization or introduced in sub-projects and provided with suitable interfaces. Then e.g. administrative areas such as marketing and business development are managed using traditional methods and software development using agile methods.
